Health Reform:
President Trump's visit to Capitol Hill might have been enough to
ensure that the House ObamaCare "repeal and replace" bill will get
enough votes to pass. If it fails, it will be a disaster for Trump and
the GOP. If it passes, it will hardly be a victory.
Trump met with House Republicans in a closed-door session to warn
them that failure to pass this bill is not an option. According to some
lawmakers, he told anyone thinking of voting no that "I'm going to come
after you, but I know I won't have to because I know you'll vote yes."
Nevertheless, some conservatives are still opposed to the bill, and
its fate remains uncertain. So the question remains: Is this high-wire
act worth it, given what's in the House bill?
As we noted in this space earlier, the original House plan was a
marginal improvement on ObamaCare in some parts, but kept the insurance
industry mandates and regulations that caused ObamaCare to fail in the
first place — minimum benefit rules and "guaranteed issue."
The GOP leadership has tweaked the bill since in an attempt to
assuage both moderates and conservatives, but left that core problem
intact.
For moderates, the revised bill sets aside money to increase
subsidies for those over age 50, who according to the Congressional
Budget Office would see their insurance costs climb under the Republican
plan compared with what they get today on ObamaCare.
To appease conservatives, the tweaks include changes to the Medicaid
reforms, such as the option for states to impose work requirements and
opt for block grant payments, and a ban on new states expanding Medicaid
under ObamaCare — which are worthwhile improvements. The revised bill
also accelerates the repeal of ObamaCare's many taxes, and lowers the
threshold for deducting medical expenses.
But even with these tweaks, the bill still drives the GOP further down the health reform road they had promised to get off.
What's been missing in this "replacement" plan all along is what
Republican health reformers had been promising to deliver since
President Obama signed the Affordable Care Act into law seven years ago:
reforms that got government out of the health care business as
much as possible and that removed regulations and mandates that impeded
market competition or distorted it and drove up prices.
Remember interstate insurance sales and expanding eligibility for
health savings accounts? Aside from an expansion in the amount of money
people can put into HSAs, those and other promised fixes are nowhere to
be found in this bill.
In other words, rather than focus on reforms that would let the
market work its magic to make insurance more affordable for everyone,
the revised GOP plan tries to boost subsidies so older workers can
better afford the overly expensive government-regulated product.
Does this get the health care system closer to where conservatives
want it to be? Not really. In fact, by ceding the ground on "guaranteed
issue," benefit mandates, and a penalty for not buying insurance, the
House plan leaves all the infrastructure in place that a future
Democratic Congress could use to reinstate, or go beyond, ObamaCare.
And this is before the replacement plan gets to the Senate, where it will certainly be watered down even more
.
It's almost enough to make one wonder what all the fuss is about. Why
go through all the political torment of repealing ObamaCare when the
replacement does so little to change the federal government's role in
health care?

Sunday: Proverbs 16:6-7
BY STEADFAST LOVE AND FAITHFULNESS INIQUITY IS ATONED FOR, and by the fear of the Lord one turns away from evil.
When a man's ways please the Lord, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.

This is a wonderful proverb of hope.
I've had a busy week mostly away from my computer.
In addition during one of the numerous thunderstorms that rolled through Middle Tennessee this week with lots of thunder and lightning, a power surge went through my computer and wiped it completely out. So, tomorrow I begin the process of replacing it and getting it back online. Thank goodness for my phone!
Praying you have a blessed Sunday and peaceful Memorial Day.

NYT Letter To the Editor With Which I Totally Agree
BOZELL: ROGER AILES SAVED AMERICA FROM A LIBERAL 'NEWS' MEDIA MONOPOLY
GOOD FRIENDS SENT ME THIS TODAY AND I HAVE TO WONDER WHEN ARE WE AS A COUNTRY GOING TO START DRAWING SOME HARD LINES? What's next, abolishing history? Literature? Where does this nonsense end?
TO THE EDITOR Re. Editorial, Tuesday, May 9, “Monuments to White Supremacy.”
In the Middle East Isis destroys priceless monuments built by those who did not share their ideology. In New Orleans ideologues remove aesthetically superb monuments depicting historical figures who, in their day, differed with current political orthodoxy. Similar intolerance informs both movements to put out of sight anything that challenges these people’s beliefs. So it is also on college campuses where speakers not in favor with some students are denied a platform or shouted down.
We live in a time of intolerance and suppression of opposing viewpoints. But I was surprised and alarmed that The New York Times editorial page would support this movement to silence opposing views by removal of monuments depicting Confederate figures.
The Civil War happened. It shaped our history. It was fought by two sides, both fighting honorably for their regional points of view. Is one side now to be demonized while the other is exalted? What next?
After New Orleans do we strip Monument Avenue in Richmond of some of the finest statuary in the country because it depicts Confederate leaders? And do we then pull down all statues of Washington, Jefferson, Madison and Jackson, slave owners all?
The ludicrous spectacle of a great nation dropping a large portion of its history down what Orwell in “1984” called the "memory hole” is deeply disturbing. It is a failure of the spirit of democracy when, instead of public debate of issues, one side is forcefully suppressed.
It is a tendency the Times should not be supporting.

What Toby Keith Won't (Or Will He?) Be Singing To Men Only In Riyadh When He Performs With Trump
THIS SHOULD BE DAMN FUN. What a hoot....Keith epitomizes Red Neck American at it's best...Trump loves this kinda of thing. It takes a lotta nerve for Trump to take Keith deep into Sunni country. But it's the perfect antedote to a week of whining and crying big crocodile tears from the left. Liberals are fast becoming the biggest bores and tantrum babies in the history of the world. Bring it on, Toby.

Psalm 110
PSALM 110
A Psalm Of David. ( The most Messianic and prophetic of all psalms. It's a psalm about Jesus. Commentary)
1 The Lord says to my lord: “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.”
2 The Lord will extend your mighty scepter from Zion, saying, “Rule in the midst of your enemies!”
3 Your troops will be willing on your day of battle. Arrayed in holy splendor, your young men will come to you like dew from the morning’s womb.
4 The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind: “You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.”
5 The Lord is at your right hand; he will crush kings on the day of his wrath.
6 He will judge the nations, heaping up the dead and crushing the rulers of the whole earth.
7 He will drink from a brook along the way, and so he will lift his head high.

Senator Rand Paul Says There's No Evidence Whatsoever of Trump-Russia Collusion---It's All Wishful Thinking and Sour Grapes From the Left
SENATE HEARING SUMMARY: EVERYTHING YOU THOUGHT YOU KNEW ABOUT RUSSIA/COMEY JUST GOT DESTROYED
FROM CNS NEWS
DURING AN INTERVIEW ON FOX NEWS about the firing of FBI Director James Comey, Senator Ran Paul (R-Ky.) said there is "no evidence" the Trump campaign colluded with the Russians, no accusation of any crime involved, and that the story is "built upon a huge myth."
“It’s sour grapes over the election," said Paul on Fox & Friends on Wednesday. "The whole Russia thing I think has been propagated by people who are upset they lost the election. ... I don’t think there’s been any facts presented that anybody broke the law."
Senator Paul added it is hypocitical for Democrats to criticize Comey's removal when Democratic leaders wanted him fired many months ago.
During the interview, co-host Brian Kilmeade said, “It didn’t take long before everyone was saying he [James Comey] got fired because he was getting too close to proving Russian collusion. What have you heard, even among Democrats – I saw Maxine Waters yesterday say she has no evidence of that [collusion]. What about that leap
Senator Paul replied, “Not only is there no evidence that the Trump administration or campaign was connected to Russia or committed any crime -- no evidence at all of committing a crime – there’s not even an accusation that I know of, of what crime would potentially be committed."
“So all this breathless talk about people, there’s a lot of hypocrisy going on," he said. "Many of these Democrats, including Chuck Schumer, said they lost confidence in Comey a long time ago. Hillary Clinton’s been blaming Comey."
Democrats to criticize Comey's removal when Democratic leaders wanted him fired many months ago.
"They should be thanking President Trump for getting rid of Comey because he politicized something that may well have had something to do with Hillary Clinton’s [election] loss," said Senator Paul.
"So, I think it’s a lot of crocodile tears and a lot of people saying, you know, they were for getting rid of Comey too but now they’re going to say it’s all about this Russia investigation, which hasn’t produced one iota of evidence that anybody did anything wrong or broke the law," said the senator.
Co-host Ainsley Earhardt then asked, “The senators and congressmen that we have been interviewing this morning all say the same thing, there’s no there there. Why, when you talk to Democrats, do they still believe that there’s collusion?”

election. They’ve sunk their teeth into something where they think
they’ll eventually find something."
"But everything is built upon a huge myth, as far as I’m concerned," said Paul.
"I don’t think there’s been any facts presented that anybody broke the law," he said. "And yet this goes on and on, the clamor now for a special prosecutor and all of this, a special investigation. No, I don’t think there’s any evidence that anybody broke the law.”

Sarah Huckabee Sanders---Another Star Is Born
GOP SEN GRASSLEY TO DEMS: SUCK IT UP AFTER COMEY FIRING
THE REAL TEST: MARKETS SHRUG OFF COMEY FIRING
THE AMAZING DEMOCRAT U-TURN ON THE FIRING OF JAMES COMEY
AFTER WATCHING SARAH HUCKABEE SANDERS, DEPUTY WHITE HOUSE PRESS SECRETARY, LAST NIGHT BRIEFLY ON FOX, then again as she presided at the WH briefing today with a mostly angry and irrational WH press on former FBI Chief Comey's firing yesterday, I have nothing but rave reviews for her. At 34, she's well-informed, smart, poised, succinct and seems able to handle a press pool of reporters who would love to pull her into a morass of slime and irrationality from which she could never get out of. It's shark infested waters... No such luck. She kept law and order in the room and was able to flow from question to question effortlessly without getting bogged down or losing her cool.
Good for her. Sarah comes by some of her instincts naturally as the daughter of former Arkansas governor and presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, She's married to a man she met during her fathers failed 2012 presidential campaign---Bryan Sanders. They have three children.
I predict, she's a rising star in Trump's administration and beyond. I look forward to seeing more of her in the days to come.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein Made the Decision Comey Had To Go
POWERLINE WEIGHS IN
KEITH KOFFLER ON COMEY'S FIRING
IT'S CLEAR THAT THE NEW DEPUTY ATTORNEY GENERAL, ROD ROSENSTEIN, MADE THE DECISION TO FIRE FBI DIRECTOR JAMES COMEY. Trump accepted his recommendation. Evidently, Rosenstein is extremely well-thought of by his colleagues on both the right and left. He is a new Trump appointee:
Trump nominated Rosenstein — who is described as a nonpartisan straight shooter who has worked for both Democratic and Republican presidents — for the position in January, before his would-be boss was embroiled in any Russian-related controversy.
MORE
Before arriving at the Justice Department, Rosenstein, 52, was the U.S. attorney for the District of Maryland. He has worked for the U.S. Attorney's Office and the Department of Justice for 26 years, according to the Department of Justice website. He was unanimously confirmed as U.S. attorney in 2005 after being appointed by President George W. Bush, and was then retained by President Barack Obama.
Rosenstein is the only U.S. attorney appointed by a previous administration to last all eight years of the Obama administration, according to the New York Times.
A graduate from Harvard Law School — where he edited the Harvard Law Review — Rosenstein started his career with the Department of Justice in 1990. He then served as counsel to Deputy Attorney General Philip B. Heymann in President Bill Clinton's first term....
There will be howling on all sides. It's alleged that this is an example of Trump's fascism and a coup is underway.... This will be blown to smithereens by the Dems. Nonetheless, it's clear that Comey had become too much the issue in the various investigations he oversaw.
Trump is indeed draining the swamp.

Jesus Reveals His Deity To the Woman At the Well
THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL STORIES OF THE BOOK OF JOHN. Jesus so often shows himself to the poor, marginalized and rejected of this world. In other words, he shows himself to the most obvious sinners, though most people hide their sinful natures behind all manner of facades. This is only one of many examples in the New Testament.
What Jesus is telling this woman at the well, among other things is that a person can now worship God anywhere, anytime in Spirit without going to the Temple in Jerusalem or a synagogue. Here's another version from John 4: 1-42:

Vetting the Met Gala--the Yeses
FOR WHATEVER REASON LAST NIGHT, I HAD VERY SLOW CONNECTIVITY, and couldn't finish writing the text for these outfits. Here are the ones I like best: most of them classic and elegant ball gowns worn with great hair and the perfect amount of jewelry---never too much. In the case of the couples, several like Gisele and Tom and Blake and Ryan looked good and well-coordinated, almost too well-coordinated---I did not like Ryan's cutsie blue tux tie that matched his wife's peacock train. However suited Jennifer and A-Rod seem to be, I did not like her tent-like cape at all. I also did not like Megyn's dress or hair. The young Jenner group and friends looked like hot messes and total exhibitionists. And I won't even mention Katy P's pathetic attempt to be.... what? unique? attention-getting?
BTW, Laura Dern, below, is a great looking middle aged woman; however, the squashed, high bosom look is out....but she hasn't yet received the memo.
Below are some of the looks I give an A to B+ to:

The Resurrected Christ Appears To Disciples On the Road to Emmaus
THIS IS TRULY ONE OF THE MOST INSPIRING STORIES OF THE GOOD NEWS OF JESUS CHRIST. It is His second appearance after He is risen from the dead to of his disciples walking and talking along the road to Emmaus from Jerusalem.
Taken from Luke: Luke 24:13-35New International Version (NIV)
On the Road to Emmaus
13 Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles[a] from Jerusalem. 14 They were talking with each other about everything that had happened. 15 As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them; 16 but they were kept from recognizing him.17 He asked them, “What are you discussing together as you walk along?”
They stood still, their faces downcast. 18 One of them, named Cleopas, asked him, “Are you the only one visiting Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?”
19 “What things?” he asked.
“About Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied. “He was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people. 20 The chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him; 21 but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. And what is more, it is the third day since all this took place. 22 In addition, some of our women amazed us. They went to the tomb early this morning 23 but didn’t find his body. They came and told us that they had seen a vision of angels, who said he was alive. 24 Then some of our companions went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but they did not see Jesus.”
25 He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken!
26 Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?” 27 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.
28 As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus continued on as if he were going farther. 29 But they urged him strongly, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over.” So he went in to stay with them.
30 When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. 31 Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight. 32 They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”
33 They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and those with them, assembled together 34 and saying, “It is true! The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon.” 35 Then the two told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognized by them when he broke the bread.

Amazing Breakthrough For Joint Repair/ Regeneration In Early Stages of Development
OBAMA'S FIRST HUNDRED DAYS AS EX-PRESIDENT
THIS IS A VIDEO MADE IN 2016 FROM A MEDICAL RESEARCH GROUP IN AUSTRALIA....Clearly this procedure is in the early stages of exploration and not yet ready for human consumption. Still it holds tremendous promise for joint repair and treatment, among many other things. I like that it uses fat tissue/stem cells from your own body and not placental stem cells.
I found out last week that my torn meniscus would not respond well to surgery. That's fine with me since I'm much better, in far less pain and walking again. Still, knowing this procedure is in the pipeline for the future, thrills me no end. It's another reason to keep a little fat tissue in reserve on the body.....but just a little. SOURCE
One other thing: there are a number of stem cell 'practioners' now in the U.S who use placental tissues and frequently operate out of chiropractic offices using people with a minimal of training and very marginal results. These are not the real thing, in my opinion and I would steer clear of them and wait.. May the buyer beware.

Ivanka Dazzles In Berlin
MEANWHILE: OEDIPUS IN PARIS @ HAD ENOUGH THERAPY?
YOU CAN SAY WHAT YOU LIKE ABOUT THE FIRST DAUGHTER, but I think Ivanka Trump is a knock-out and stunner in many ways: She's smart, articulate, hard working and resourceful, tough, stylish and beautiful. What a combo! How refreshing that she can represent her father and our country on the world stage. And what fun! I continue to wish her and the Trump administration well. My only other feedback is those earrings make my earlobes hurt and walking in those super-high heels makes for a grand entrance but nonetheless makes me very nervous.....

Annual Spring Picnic With Family In the Historic Cemetery of My Hometown During Dogwood Season
UPDATE: ROGER---TRUMP'S TILT TO CHINA SPELLS TROUBLE FOR PUTIN

THIS LAST WEEK, I HAVE BEEN FAR TOO BUSY with business, tax matters and getting ready to go to Houston to see the Gs this week. Am now on my way down there, for perhaps the last time, as they are packing up, selling their beautiful home and moving to.....wait for it....moving to.....I'll tell you later....it's out of the country. I'm still trying to adjust to this big change! Let's just say, it's a place I can't drive to. Will have to fly.
Meanwhile, I want to say how thrilled I am that Neil Gorsuch was confirmed by the Senate and already been sworn in to the Supreme Court of the United States. Simply wonderful.
In addition, since coming back from hiking in Arizona this winter, I have been limping around from pain in my right knee. In typical style, I did not go get it checked for a month thinking it would magically get better on its own. Wrong again.....finally, I went to an orthopedic guy and was tentatively diagnosed with a torn meniscus. Went yesterday for an MRI, so will soon see. It has been very painful and I don't take any pain pills. If necessary, will get it repaired when I get back. I don't want to, but will if the orthopedic doctor says I should.
But enough about my knee problems.
Spring here is glorious and I hope it is where you are. I will blog as I can between Easter, family, and limping around. Thanks for coming by.
Finally the picnic with some of my oldest relatives----two in their ninties, one in her eighties was simply splendid. I sat near the tomb of my forebearer who had the same name as I. Will try to post another pic later.

Finally the picnic with some of my oldest relatives----two in their ninties, one in her eighties was simply splendid. I sat near the tomb of my forebearer who had the same name as I. Will try to post another pic later.

Sunday: What Is the Holy Spirit, the Third Person of the Godhead/Trinity?
WHY JESUS SENT THE SPIRIT: JOY WILL KEEP YOU FROM FALLING AWAY
SINCE THIS IS THE BEGINNING OF HOLY WEEK, and it is the explosive power of Holy Spirit which raised Jesus from the dead after His Crucifixion, it seems like a good time to post a video on this mysterious force within the Trinity. Pretty amazing, isn't it?

Five Susan Rice Scandal Facts Every American Should Remember
DID RICE COMMIT A CRIME? IT'S LOOKING THAT WAY @ IBD
ROGER SIMON: SUSAN RICE, OBAMA'S HATCHET WOMAN PROVES LORD ACTON RIGHT AGAIN
1. Susan Rice allegedly ordered surveillance of Donald Trump’s 2016 election campaign aides as part of a political intelligence operation.
Rice allegedly maintained spreadsheets of Trump aides’ telephone calls “one year before the 2016 presidential election,” according to the Daily Caller.
The Daily Caller reports:
“In the years prior to civil war breaking out in Syria, that country also experienced its worst drought on record,” Rice said in October 2015, during a speech at Stanford University. “Farming families moved en masse into urban centers, increasing political unrest and further priming the country for conflict.”
Hundreds of thousands of Syrians have been killed in the conflict since President Barack Obama drew his infamous “red line” in 2012, promising to retaliate against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime if it used chemical weapons on its own people.
3. Rice once declared that there is “no military solution” to the raging conflict in Yemen.
“As in Syria, there is no military solution to the crisis in Yemen,” Rice said in April 2015, during a speech at the Arab American Institute’s Kahlil Gibran Gala.
Seven months before Rice’s speech, President Obama had called his administration’s drone strike-driven military operation in Yemen a success story.
President Trump, however, ordered more airstrikes against al-Qaeda in Yemen in February than any year in Obama’s presidency.
4. Susan Rice said accused deserter Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl served “with honor and distinction.”
In March 2015, Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl was charged with treason for allegedly deserting his fellow soldiers and abandoning his Afghanistan outpost in 2009.
In a June 2014 broadcast of ABC’s This Week, Susan Rice defended Bergdahl, saying he “served the United States with honor and distinction. And we’ll have the opportunity eventually to learn what has transpired in the past years.”
As Breitbart News reported, six soldiers lost their lives searching for then-Private First Class Bowe Bergdahl after he abandoned his outpost.
5. Susan Rice was the driving force behind a misinformation campaign about the Sept. 11, 2012, Benghazi terror attacks.
Then-UN Ambassador Rice, acting as the Obama White House’s spokeswoman, appeared on five Sunday morning talk shows and repeatedly claimed that the Benghazi attacks had been caused by an anti-Islam video.
Rice appeared on ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox News, and CNN and regurgitated talking points purporting that the protests that had erupted “spontaneously” near two U.S. government facilities in Benghazi, Libya and were a result of a “hateful video” that was offensive to Islam.
But government documents, released following a Judicial Watch lawsuit, reveal that government officials monitoring the attack in real-time did not cite an anti-Islam video as an explanation for the paramilitary attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi.
In May 2015 interview, former Obama CIA Director Mike Morell said Rice’s Benghazi talking points blaming an anti-Islam YouTube video crossed “the line between national security and politics.”
“I think the line in there that says one of our objectives here right on the Sunday show is to blame the video rather than a failure of policy,” Morell said on Fox News’ Special Report. “And as you know, I say in the book that I think that that is crossing the line between national security and politics.

ROGER SIMON: SUSAN RICE, OBAMA'S HATCHET WOMAN PROVES LORD ACTON RIGHT AGAIN
This Walk Down Memory Lane From Breitbart:
It was revealed Monday that President Obama’s national security adviser Susan Rice allegedly ordered the unmasking of the identities of Trump campaign aides who were reportedly being surveilled during the 2016 election.
The recent reports further prove, at least in part, President Donald Trump’s claims that senior Obama officials had collected intelligence on Trump aids and disseminated it throughout the government. Rice’s involvement — as it relates to her reported role in the unmasking of Trump aids and circulating sensitive information — places the longtime Obama operative at the center of another major political scandal.1.
“What was produced by the intelligence community at the request of Ms. Rice were detailed spreadsheets of intercepted phone calls with unmasked Trump associates in perfectly legal conversations with individuals,” diGenova told The Daily Caller News Foundation Investigative Group Monday.
“The overheard conversations involved no illegal activity by anybody of the Trump associates, or anyone they were speaking with,” diGenova said. “In short, the only apparent illegal activity was the unmasking of the people in the calls.”2. Rice claimed that climate change was responsible for the deadly civil war in Syria.
“In the years prior to civil war breaking out in Syria, that country also experienced its worst drought on record,” Rice said in October 2015, during a speech at Stanford University. “Farming families moved en masse into urban centers, increasing political unrest and further priming the country for conflict.”

Bombshell: What Does "Unmasking" Mean and Why Is It Important?
PJMEDIA: INCIDENTAL, UNCISMENTAL
(ABOVE, SUSAN RICE, FORMER PRESIDENT OBAMA'S RIGHT HAND MAN AND UNMASKER-IN-CHIEF)
THE NEW WORD OF THE HOUR IS UNMASKING. So we might as well figure out what it means, since we're going to be hearing a lot about it for weeks to come. It's a nice, seeming innocuous word for what may be a dynamite story with major national and international implications.
Here's a description of the term from today's Washington Examiner:
This is a very big story with major implications from a little harmless seeming word. Guess we'll have to stay tuned....

"UNMASKING" IS THE TERM BEING USED in the press about decisions to uncover people who were incidentally caught up in routine surveillance of foreign officials, which reportedly happened to members of President Trump's transition team.Got that? Unmasking means identifying anonymous people who are secretly spied on by the government for various reasons---including political gain. It appears that this surveillance happened to a number of Trump's inner circle before, during and after the November election by the inner circle of the Obama administration in order to de-legitimize Trump. Trump has been saying this all along. Now with this bombshell revelation that former NSA head Susan Rice---of Benghazi and Bergdahl fame---is the Obama operative who requested the "unmasking" to take place, it appears, the president might be right after all.
Here's how to think about the procedure that's being described, what unmasking can lead to, and why it matters:
U.S. intelligence agencies routinely do legal surveillance of foreign nationals thanks to a section of law in the "Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act," generally referred to as FISA. FISA only authorizes electronic surveillance of non-U.S. people, but it can pick up communications in which a U.S. citizen is one of the parties in the conversation. For example, if the ambassador another country under surveillance calls a U.S. citizen, both would be captured.
In that example, when the phone call or other communication is eventually transcribed into an intelligence product, the name of the U.S. citizen is not supposed to be identified in the document, to stay consistent with FISA. Instead, the intelligence agencies use a simple alias, such as "U.S. person number 1," rather his or her proper name. This is known as masking, and masking should also apply in cases where two foreign nationals simply mention the name of a U.S. citizen.
However, there are times when the intelligence agency needs to know the name of the person in the communication, and so they must ask that the alias be removed. Removing the alias is known as "unmasking."
There are legal reasons to unmask someone, and officials are required to follow proper procedures to make sure the unmasking is being done for a good reason. But it's also possible that someone could have been unmasked illegally, and that's what Trump's team says happened.
Specifically, Trump's team charges that the Obama administration unmasked some of the Trump transition team officials for political reasons, in order to show that Trump's team was talking to the Russians.
This is a very big story with major implications from a little harmless seeming word. Guess we'll have to stay tuned....

Fourth Sunday in Lent: Lament
DON'T WASTE YOUR SUFFERING @ TGC
PSALM 44:9-16
BUT NOW you have rejected and humbled us;
You no longer go out with our armies.
10 You made us retreat before the enemy,
and our adversaries have plundered us.
11 You gave us up to be devoured like sheep
and have scattered us among the nations.
12 You sold your people for a pittance,
gaining nothing from their sale. 13 You have made us a reproach to our neighbors,
the scorn and derision of those around us.
14 You have made us a byword among the nations;
the peoples shake their heads at us.
15 I live in disgrace all
and my face is covered with shame
16 at the taunts of those who reproach and revile me,
because of the enemy, who is bent on revenge.
LAMENT: When we think of the essential forms of prayer, we think of adoration and thanksgiving, confession, and supplication.Learning to do these three kinds of prayer in the midst of suffering----and about our suffering---is so critical for spiritual growth (and for survival) that it should be cosidered a spiritual skill on its own. Most of us in in suffering stop praying or put up a brief petition for help. Here the psalmist nearly shouts his pain, frustration, and even anger to God, but the significant thing is he does so before God, processing his grief in sustained prayer. God understands us so well that he permits, even encourages, us to speak to him with uncensored hearts.
PRAYER: LORD, I praise you for being a God who invites us to give you long lists of complaints! How patient, loving and caring you are to all your children. Thank you for the invitation to unburden myself fully, without the need to say everything in the 'right way.' Amen

Carl's Jr Makes the Most Brilliant Ad and Cultural Turnaround For Decency In Advertising In History---Eat Your Heart Out Charlotte McKinney
ENOUGH WAS ENOUGH
GOOD FOR THEM. There's a new sheriff at Carl's Jr/Hardee's and it's fictional character Carl Hardee Sr. I like it. It's about time.

GOOD FOR THEM. There's a new sheriff at Carl's Jr/Hardee's and it's fictional character Carl Hardee Sr. I like it. It's about time.
Here's the PR discription:
Folksy and charming, Carl Hardee Sr. is a no-nonsense kind of guy who doesn’t care much for provocative ads featuring bikini-clad women. He aims to put the focus on “food, not boobs,” with a new marketing strategy. That’s quite a departure for the Carl’s Jr and Hardees burger chains, where millennial playboy Carl Hardee Jr. has been running the place like a baller, using exposed skin and double entendres to grab consumers’ attention. Looks like the party’s over, dude. This is the fictional scenario, with a cheeky nod to real life, for a new campaign launching today and kicking off a major brand overhaul for the fast-food restaurants. It also introduces the first-ever spokesman for the CKE-owned Carl’s Jr and Hardees sister chains—the logically named Carl Hardee Sr. (an amalgam of actual founders Carl Karcher and Wilbur Hardee). Played by actor-musician Charles Esten from the soapy series Nashville, the weathered and bearded character takes control of the company from his wayward son in the opening moments of the new spot. Flanked by movers who quickly get to work tearing down the displays of branded hedonism, Senior quickly gets the attention of his out-of-control progeny and his long-suffering employees.  .Oh yeah. It's back to the basics: meat and fire.

Is It Possible That Repelling Obamacare Could Be This Simple?
FAR BE IT FROM ME TO KNOW. Still it's an appealing idea: A simple two page bill, including two lines repealing Obamacare in the House as of the end of 2017. Nothing about replace in it though I'm confident a number of replace bills would soon follow.
Rep. Mo Brooks, R-AL, thinks is a great idea. He, like me, opposed the Ryan bill that was dubbed Obamacare-Lite as it attempted to be all things to all people and went down in flames miserably before it even came to a vote. That bill never got to the fundamental issue of getting government out of the center of healthcare and putting it all back into the hands of individual patients and families. Here's what the press release states:ble Care Act.

U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks, R-Huntsville, introduced the bill Friday.WOW. Too simple? Too Easy? Maybe or maybe now. It a bill I could get on board with.
A simple two-page document, an Alabama congressman has filed a bill in the U.S. House of Representatives to repeal Obamacare.
Or, as it is stated in the bill, the Patient Protection and Afforda
"This Act may be cited as the 'Obamacare Repeal Act,'" the bill states.
And the bill uses just one sentence to do it.
"Effective as of Dec. 31, 2017, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act is repealed, and the provisions of law amended or repealed by such Act are restored or revived as if such Act had not been enacted," the bill states.

Sunday---Psalm 91 And Expostion By Dr. Tim Keller
Psalm 91
1 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.[a]
2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.[a]
2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”
3 Surely he will save you
from the fowler’s snare
and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5 You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
8 You will only observe with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.
from the fowler’s snare
and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
9 If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,”
and you make the Most High your dwelling,
10 no harm will overtake you,
no disaster will come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;
12 they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on the lion and the cobra;
you will trample the great lion and the serpent.
and you make the Most High your dwelling,
10 no harm will overtake you,
no disaster will come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;
12 they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on the lion and the cobra;
you will trample the great lion and the serpent.
14 “Because he[b] loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call on me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life I will satisfy him
and show him my salvation.”
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call on me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life I will satisfy him
and show him my salvation.”

Yes, They Pulled the Bill----Good For Trump and America
UPDATES: DON SURBER GETS IT RIGHT: PRESIDENT TRUMP NOW DE FACTO SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE President Trump killed Ryancare and Paul Ryan's career today making the president the de facto Speaker of the House. This is a good move for Republicans and the Republic.
MICHAEL WALSH @ PJMEDIA: PAUL RYAN TAKES THE BARZINI MEETING: Paul Ryan walked straight into the Barzini trap that president Trump set for him. By insisting that the voters desired "Repeal and Replace" when in fact all anybody wanted was "Repeal, full stop," Ryan's inner wonk superseded his duties as the speaker of the House to ensure the votes were there for the "Replace" part of the equation. That they weren't should be the end of his speakership.
FORGET THE CATASTROPHIZING...JUST GO BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD AND WORK YOUR BUNS OFF TO REPEAL OBAMACARE BEFORE TRYING TO REPLACE IT. It probably should be done in a minimum of two separate bills. Or let Obamacare explode or implode. One way or another, Obamacare is going down.
This is clearly a win for the American people in the long run. Forget the nonsense that this is a blow to Trump and his deal-making. Trump knows a bad deal when he sees it. He hates to lose. It's a good thing because this bill was not worth saving.
Perhaps we'll go back to the drawing board and get the thing right next time.

Kill the Damn Bill---Rep Mo. Brooks (R-AL)----This GOP Healthcare Bill Is Corporate Welfare and The Worst Bill I've Ever Faced
DON'T DO IT CONGRESS...EVEN WITH DEADLINE PRESSURE FROM THE IMPATIENT PRESIDENT TRUMP. It's corporate welfare, among many other things, and totally, totally unacceptable.
Do NOT be bullied. That's why there are three branches of government. Do your job and good will come from it for America.
Time to regroup.

Delay The Vote---If Republicans Pass This Hasty, Poorly Conceived Healthcare Bill.....
THEY WILL BE ANNIHILATED @ THE FEDERALIST
INSTEAD, LAWMAKERS SHOULD TAKE A BREATH AND REWRITE REPEAL AND REPLACE....@ THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER
House Speaker Paul Ryan doesn't have the votes to pass the American Health Care Act, which is why he postponed the vote on the bill, originally scheduled for Thursday.Amen and Amen.
This postponement was prudent, and Republicans ought not to vote on Friday either. There is no reason to rush the legislation. There is no imminent deadline, no reason the Senate needs to vote on Obamacare before confirming Neil Gorsuch.
Republicans ought to take their time and write a better bill that, unlike the AHCA, acually repeals Obamacare and institutes real reform of the broken healthcare system.
MIRENGOFF @ POWERLINE BLOG OFFERS MORE HOPE EITHER WAY:
My mantra on health care reform has been that it’s more important to do it right than to do it fast.
President Trump disagrees. He insists that the House vote on Speaker Ryan’s (and his) flawed legislation tomorrow, and that’s what will happen.
After negotiations broke down today, Trump delivered an ultimatum: Pass the bill tomorrow or I’m moving on from Obamacare repeal.
Congress can repeal and replace Obamacare even if the president moves on. However, the ultimatum had its intended effect — or at least half of it. There will be a vote on Friday.
To be fair, passing the Ryan-Trump measure doesn’t preclude doing repeal and replace right. The Senate can pass its own measure, after which the House will get another crack at the matter. Something good might still emerge, especially if Vice President Pence blows off the Senate parliamentarian.
Still, the better starting point the House comes up with, the better a final product is likely to be. Passing a placeholder may be better than passing nothing, but it’s hardly ideal.
Is the bill that will be voted on tomorrow better than a placeholder? It’s hard to say. I know the bill has been improved in an attempt to placate the Freedom Caucus. The “essential benefits” mandate has been eliminated, for example. This means insurers can offer policies that don’t include mental-health treatment, wellness visits, and maternity and newborn care, etc. That’s an improvement.
But I can’t tell from the reporting I’ve seen which mandates remain. I know that the one requiring coverage of individuals with preexisting conditions is still in the legislation, but apparently others remain as well.We shall see. We shall see.
GOP Healthcare Reform Is A Mess and Much Ado About Nothing ---It Must Be Voted Down Or Postponed Until It's Done Right Or Not At All
UPDATE: HOUSE POSTPONES---THIS IS A GOOD DEVELOPMENT
THE NEW HEALTH CARE BILL COMING UP FOR A VOTE IN THE U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TONIGHT OR TOMORROW IS A WATERED DOWN VERSION OF OBAMACARE---or Obamacare Lite.
It should not pass because it was concocted by un-courageous politicians who want to be all things to all people and avoid the real work of making the fundamental changes in health care that need to be made. That includes eradicating the all-benefits mandate.
President Trump should be ashamed of this watered-down non-deal. Speaker Paul Ryan should be ashamed. We should all be horrified at this mess and piece of non-legislation..
Here is an editorial in IBD today that expounds on the trainwreck in so -called healthcare reform:
My truth is that government healthcare should focus only on individuals most desperately in need of help and use taxation to fund that help. It should also allow everyone else to make their healthcare choices so that patients become more prudent healthcare shoppers because of increase competetion.
