Tonight: Screwball Questions from the Far Left

UPDATE: Video on Tuesday's debates here. Some footage on Thompson who answers the question: did he wait too long? Mitt makes a cute zinger about Fred on Law and Order. And Giuliani gets a great comment in on what will happen to Canadians with Hillarycare. More tomorrow, after a full day away from the computer.

Tonight GOP hopefuls will be subjected to grilling from the far left's favorite, a man who has made his political biases quite clear for the past 30 years: who thinks Bush is a criminal, Scooter Libby should be imprisoned for something that was never ruled a crime but was fined anyway, and Dick Cheney is Darth Vader.

On the other hand, his heros are the Clintons, Sandy "stuff it in his pants" Burger and that grand ole peacenik, Jimmy Carter. It should be interesting evening.....stay tuned.

Web, without getting into the whole Scooter Libby/Valerie Plame case again, the fact remains that Scooter Libby was found guilty (by a jury of his peers) of one count of obstruction of justice, two counts of perjury and one count of making false statements to federal investigators. Really, he was! IBD might not have covered it, but there's plenty out there on the "internets" with info about his case. Venture outside the comfortable world of right-wing taliking points and check it out sometime.

As an aside, I do believe that perjury and obstruction of justice are still crimes in this country. Would love a link to any recent judical rulings that prove me wrong though.

One last thing, as for Dick Cheney being Darth Vader, that's completely wrong. He's definitely Darth Sidious.

Right-wing sparkle has a very interesting pose Tuesday on the Cheneys. which I think is most telling, Vienna.

"America is not at war. Our warriors are at war. America is at the mall."

That is the truest statement I have ever read on any blog - right or left.

I'm glad the Cheneys are giving to charity. It's what good citizens do. And I'm glad they love both their daughters. It's what good parents do. And I'm almost certain that Democrats love their children, too. I know I do.

I just fundamentally disagree with most of their political positions. When Dick Cheney was in the House of Representatives, he was opposed to, among other things, a resolution calling for the release of Nelson Mandela (because he viewed the ANC as a terrorist organization), opposed making a federal holiday honorning Martin Luther King, opposed Head Start. As far as Iraq goes, can you name one thing - just one thing - that he has been right about? We were not greeted as liberators, we did not find stockpiles of WMD, Saddam did not have an operational relationship with al-Qaeda, and on and on and on. And now we're off to attack Iran. I'm hoping against hope his track record is better this time, but sadly, I doubt it will be.

I have laugh though when people talk about how tough Dick Cheney is - he had the opportunity to prove it by signing up to fight in Vietnam. Had "other priorities" though. He got 5 deferments - 4 student, and 1 "hardship" exemption because his wife was 3 months pregnant. Maybe I'm going out on a limb here, but I'm guessing some of the fellas in the meat grinder of Vietnam had "other priorities", too.

I did buy Lynne Cheney's first book though - it's a nice alphabet book about America.

You perfectly describe Bush, Cheney and Libby. Well stated. I couldn't have said it better.

Right on Vienna Va! You have Cheney tagged as the liar and doofus he really is.

hg, that is ridiculous...you're excused for the remainder of the day....

Thank you for posting clips of the debate.

Speaking of Cheney, I think the best of the prominent Republicans is Lynne Cheney. Romney, Thompson, and Giuliani are all terrific candidates. I guess my favorites are Thompson and Giuliani.
