THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL STORIES OF THE BOOK OF JOHN. Jesus so often shows himself to the poor, marginalized and rejected of this world. In other words, he shows himself to the most obvious sinners, though most people hide their sinful natures behind all manner of facades. This is only one of many examples in the New Testament.
What Jesus is telling this woman at the well, among other things is that a person can now worship God anywhere, anytime in Spirit without going to the Temple in Jerusalem or a synagogue.
