HOPE I'M WRONG HERE. WILL STILL VOTE FOR McCAIN
It's late, I'm just home and getting ready for bed, so this will be short and sweet. It's one of the hardest things I've posted here and I hate saying it more than anything. I hate saying this because I am a fan of VP candidate Sarah Palin. Unfortunately I am no longer a fan of her continuing on the GOP presidential ticket with Senator John McCain.
Palin needs to resign from the ticket immediately. I'm with Kathleen Parker, Palin needs to step down. Now. This weekend. Another rumor. It's best for the ticket, best for the country and best for her. She should resign Sunday so McCain can replace her Monday morning with either Joe Lieberman or Mitt Romney ahead of the VEEP debate Thursday. It will be a disaster and bloodbath otherwise.
Palin may be smart, hard working and often articulate and funny, but in the last ten days, she has shown herself to be far too inexperienced and out of her league for a job that's only a heartbeat away from POTUS. She's not ready to be president. She's not ready to be VEEP. And if she stays on the ticket, she will be an increasing liability and embarrassment to McCain and the GOP.
There's no other chance for conservatives to win otherwise. Not with this monumental financial crisis all around us. The country needs a McCain/Romney or a McCain/Lieberman ticket more than it needs a McCain/Palin ticket.
I hate it but let me say one more time: Palin needs to get off the GOP ticket this weekend so that McCain can replace her Monday morning with Mitt or Joe. Time is of the essence.

McCain should simply say that the economic crisis in the United States is so serious as to merit a shift in the lead resources he needs within his administration. Palin should simultaneously offer to return to Alaska to allow this change. No false excuses are necessary.
Romney is the obvious choice in this regard. Lieberman might have led the replacement pick for Palin had issues in Iran or Pakistan been more prominent than the economy. Romney is a much safer pick.
I agree, Romney is the man.
McMaverick is not going to replace his "soul mate" with anyone else. It's his style to make a rash decision and let the rest of us live with it. That'll be a fun ride when it comes to Iran, North Korea and Pakistan.
If Sarah Palin does step down, it'll no doubt be to "spend more time with her family", which will cause every person in America to immediately say "Well, duh! You've got an infant at home you're still breastfeeding!!" followed by "Why did you accept the nomination in the first place?"
My money is on Tim Pawlenty stepping up to the plate. He's conservative, evangelical, plain as a bowl of white rice, and, as a plus, can put together a coherent sentence around a sensible idea.
As a religious conservative, would you be a bit concerned about having a Mormon (Mitt) or a pro-choice, pro-gay rights Democrat (Lieberman) on the Republican ticket?

Hope you're right, Marie. I'm feeling a bit more sanguine today about it all. More than anything, I hope I'm wrong. We all will be watching and cheering her on Thursday night.
I'll be praying she makes a strong showing Thursday night! I must admit a McCain/Romney ticket would be a great choice in this time of financial unrest.
I invite you to have faith in Palin's innate talent. Everything about her biography says she is up to the task. She is not fully, instantly knowledgable; she is up to the task of becoming fully knowledgable.

Governor Palin has been badly advised by the timid former Bushies who make up her campaign staff. When challenged, she should be saying, with a big smile:
Of COURSE I don't know everything. Neither does Barack! He thinks we have 57 states!
I joke. But, seriously, I have a record of accomplishment to point to, Senator Obama has rhetoric.
I filed ethics complaints against Alaska Republicans, and people went to jail. The only people who go to jail around Barack are his friends - like Tony Rezko, who helped Barack buy his house.
I got Alaskans a better deal for natural gas rights. Barack squandered $49M when he chaired the board of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge for education.
I completed a deal for a natural gas pipeline. That deal had been stalled for decades before I came into office. Barack was head of the Senate Committee on Afghanistan and never chaired a meeting.
Then Barack - during his European coronation tour, falsely claimed to be on the Senate Banking Committee.
Because he doesn't have actual accomplishment to point to, Sen. Obama uses rhetoric in a somewhat desperate effort build credibility. You can either take Sen. Obama's rhetoric at face value, or you can contrast his lack of professional accomplishment with my record of actual accomplishment. Or, more importantly, you can contrast Sen. Obama's lack of accomplishment with John McCain's record of actual accomplishment.

I do think Romney should get a cabinet position at the least.
I think Sarah is finding her wings as she adjusts to the incredible barrage of hate from the left.
