I have to say, I can't really imagine anyone in their right mind preferring to be hated. That seems a bit of a stretch to me. I can say while I'd prefer to be liked, since I can't control other people's reactions, I hope to be at least neutral to whatever response I evoke and not to have to have it one way or the other.
