MAYBE I'M BIASED after seeing Emily as the female lead in
The Young Victoria. And maybe I'm just starved to put on a dress---any dress--- after the past 40 days and nights of rain, snow and gray. In any event, I sorta like this one and the vampy shoes even though I'd find them hard to walk in. Think the only thing I might change are the long sleeves---making them into 3/4 length. Then again, I might not. In any event, she's got the figure to make it all work. In the end, think I like the stark and sparse simplicity here in the dead of winter....like a closet that's been cleaned out of its junky clutter and fussiness.
I like the dress, and I don't like the dress. It's classy, yet it's not sexy. It looks like she's wearing chain mail armor to protect her from men. If you are her husband, and feeling romantic, how do you get through the chain mail armor? Can't be done? Blowtorch? Metal snips? Poetry? "Kobe special" diamond? Paint the house? Your only hope is: maybe she's just so classy that everything will work out gracefully and with class. However: does she look like she wants to be liberated from the armor?
ReplyDeleteYou are always and exactly right again Greg. Not wildly sexy. Does she want to be liberated? Maybe not. Perhaps it's the perfect week---with Iran set to give us all a 'surprise', and Obama spending us into debtors prisoon---to wear this body armor outfit, pay per vue dress. Might protect her from Armaggedon and snippets of it might be torn off and used to pay for a loaf of bread if need be...

ReplyDeleteLOL. You crack me.
Maybe the shoes are a hint that she wishes to be liberated. Maybe that's a gleam in her eye and a playful expression on her lips which I initially failed to recognize and to credit. Maybe the shoes + gleam + playful expression + self confidence and classiness of the dress = extremely sexy look, and maybe I originally missed the nuance. I originally enjoyed the fun of writing "Blow torch? Metal snips?" But, now, in the light of day, I am liking the entire look much better. The look has depth and nuance. There's an interesting person inside there.
Interesting day-time perspective. Actually, I see this dress as more for late afternoon rather than a more dressy occasion where more skin is exposed. Maybe it's designed for a power cup of tea at Shudders in Santa Monica around 3:30. Thank goodness she didn't wear those awful bondage shoes with it. The sandal heels keep things lighter and just a tad more fun. But this is not about rip-roaring fun by any stretch of the imagination.
