M2C2: Living in Tornado Alley

Tornados in Febrauary are rare, but certainly not unheard of in the mid-South. While the Al Gores and John Kerrys of the world are screaming climate change, or rather man-made climate change as the ultimate cause, the fact remains that the weather has been unpredictable since the beginning of time. And always will be.

Just as there are 500 year floods which only come severely every 500 years or so, there are also 100, 200, 500 and 1,000 year tornados, hurricanes and and the like. This is not rocket science.

Trying to control and predict larger scale weather patterns would be mankind's greatest folly and ego trip. Attempting to organize government around such Gorish predictions would be beyond ridiculous. But make no mistake, that's the current trend.

Conferences like Davos are hatching hundreds of new schemes, government programs and business ideas to control and curtail our freedoms in the name of man-made global warming, which never has nor ever will ever be proven. These international globe trotters are the beginning of forming a one world government which seeks to regulate the bejeebers out of us all in the name of MMCC, M2C2. It is based on heavy-duty myth making and should scare us all.

In most of these cases the cure is much more deadly than the disease.

I am all for green and alternative energy development and have in fact put a good deal of my own money in such private, high risk start-up companies. But for man-made global warming to be the central focus or government going forward would be a boon doggle of the highest degree.

The devastation and havoc such storms as Tuesday night can wreck are not to be underestimated or taken lightly. My heart goes out to those who have and are suffering in the aftermath of these storms. We have tornados and flooding. Other people have earthquakes or volcanos or hurricanes. And other people just have mosquitos, drought and mega-forest fires.

There is no perfect place where the living is easy all the time. And just when we think there is, along comes something like a bird flu epidemic.

  1. Of course what scientists say about global warming and climate change is that the existence of "extremes" like tornados in February in Tennessee, or temps in the low 70s in Vienna, VA on February 6th are indicators that the climate is indeed changing.

Whether global warming is man made or natural, I can't see what the harm is in encouraging people or corporations to recycle, use less gas, conserve energy by turning off the lights when they aren't being used. What is wrong with the government encouraging businesses to help make a cleaner enviroment by offering tax breaks to "go green"?

I am surprised though to hear that you are investing anything in "green" companies. I would have thought your disgust with anything remotely related to any proposal or idea put forth by the demonCRAT party would have you running for the hills.

My heart certainly goes out to those in the south affected by the storms. Their stories of terror and destruction are heartbreaking.

President Bush will tour the area on Friday, and said, "Prayers can help and so can the government." I trust all those who detest the "nanny state" will stay far, far away from the President and his promise of federal monies to help those devastated by the storms.

  2. my dear, that the earth my be in a warming cycle I would not be so arrogant to either confirm or deny....most civilized humanoids are for conservation....and investing in start-ups is the conservative way, rather than waiting for government to do it for us.

wherever did you get some of your ideas?....I might also remind you that I have a degree in civil and environmental engineering....self serving as that may be..

  3. wherever did you get some of your ideas?....

which ones are you referring to?

  4. The idea that Democrats own the green movement. It's a myth.

Let's recall the Bush home in Texas as opposed to Mr. Gore's up the street from me. Not only is Gore hard pressed to play catch up with Bush's green design, he is making sure everyone knows what a good green guy he is and boring everyone in the process.

But where in the world did you get the idea that conservatives aren't green and that it's shocking that I would invest in those kinds of companies?

You libs seem to think that it takes massive government intervention to solve the ills of society, while most conservatives think it's a matter of solving things in the free market place. Sure some regulations are necessary at times, but that's another post.

  5. Uh, I'm shocked because it seems slightly hypocritcal to continuously bash those who think that global warming is even a *possiblity* as stupid, brainless, rights-taking, business-hating Gorebots and then turn around and make money off companies doing their part to combat global warming. But hey, it's still a free country and you can make (or lose) money however you wish, no matter how much Hitlery Clintoon wants to take away every single right you now possess.

I don't recall saying that government is the solution to all the humanoid (???) problems. Government does somethings well, and should get out of the way other times. I don't happen to think that business is the solution for all the problems we face.

What's really funny is that you questioned where I get my info from. Just so happens that Tom Delay (Patriot - Texas) showed up on Hardball yesterday with Chris Matthews and spouted virtually verbaitm your diatribe against Davos. "They're coming to take our rights!" (Which rights are never specified, and the "them" isn't clear either -libs? dhimmis? islamofacists? communists? - all interchangable no doubt). "It's arrogance to suggest climate change is man-made!" (Except by scientists world wide, who are no doubt blinded by BDS or something and who's views are immediately suspect). How does it work, exactly? Is the lib-hating newtork run like Fox? Do you get an email every morning telling you what the issue is for the day?

But I've got an eco-challenge for you, my climate change denying friend. It's been well-established that you have lots of disposable income, enjoy traveling and like the company of Muslims as dinner companions. So why not visit Cairo? Here's the catch: you must go between say, late October and late February. Your stay must be for at least two weeks. You must stay in Cairo for at least 10 of those days.

Why the stipulations? Because that's when Cairienes burn their trash to stay warm. I promise you that if you visit Cairo during the months specified you will get to experience man-made pollution like you've never experienced before. The air is so thick with burning trash that you can smell it, see it, feel it and taste it. It's like a haze that sits over the city until around noon every day. The pollution is so bad that my kids had days when all outdoor activities at the school were cancelled because the air quality was so poor, and that's really saying something for a city where, rumor has it, every day you spend in Cairo is equal to smoking a pack of cigarettes daily (and that's on "good" days).

So, if you actually do this, and are still unchanged in your opinion that man is not in any way, shape or form contributing to global warming and/or climate change (after experiencing quite possibly the most disgusting humanoid produced air pollution you'll ever experience in your lifetime ...inshallah...) then I hereby promise to give up adding my $.02 (probably not worth quite that much) on all subjects, and will leave you alone with your thoughts and opinions without challenging a single one.

    Deal?

  6. No thanks.

Actually you don't have to go to Cairo. Most any old big city like Mexico City, Istanbul, Beijing will do for that kind of air pollution and smoke.

I've already paid my dues in that department....China mid-eighties. Air pollution so bad everyone got seriously sick with bronchitis. I coughed so hard I got an inguinal hernia and had to have major surgery to repair it.

Let me make myself clear: the climate is always changing, but man-made large scale climate change is another thing. I don't buy it. But that's not to say these countries shouldn't clean up their air pollution problems.

  7. Well, we disagree. There are plenty of reputable scientists out there who have written reports about climate change, including many written by scientists who work for federal agencies. Unfortunately you can't read all of them as the Bush administration has either banned their publication or censored their findings. What was that you said about Republicans defending the First Ammendment...?

But on the bright side now people can visit previously unreachable places in Alaska and Antarctica due to melting ice caps. And like Dana Perino (Bush's press secretary) said, "…this is an issue where I’m sure lots of people would love to ridicule me when I say this, but it is true that many people die from cold-related deaths every winter." I guess she was implying that global warming is a good thing so poor people won't freeze to death. That's compassionate conservatism for ya.

p.s. No way Istanbul's pollution matches Cairo's. Not possible. Mexico City? Bejing? Probably.

  8. Unfortunately, John McCain is one who is caught up in espousing some of the absurd proposals regarding government intervention to stop global warming.

  9. Bob, I agree, he does seem to be caught up...but remember, he lives in Arizona....but still, I'm surprised at McCain.
