I'll flesh this out later, but for now I want to go on record.
Republican ticket: McCain/Huckabee. Priceless.
Republican ticket: McCain/Huckabee. Priceless.
UPDATE.
I want to go on record now with this one and come back later with reasons why this will make an excellent choice for the Republicans. Let it be known, I'd rather see Fred Thompson as McCain's running mate and hope it happens. However, two old men---one with white hair and the other with no hair----running together will never work no matter how wide the other bases covered. McCain/Huckabee covers enough to make it possible, albeit slightly, for the Republicans to win in 2008.

Dick Morris on McCain's chances in the general.
I'm not ready to call the Billary-Obama cat fight till at least next week. But it may be soon.
Hmm, I hadn't thought about that match up for a ticket yet! It makes sense though, due to so many evangelicals being wary of McCain. Huckabee would help there. I also like some of Huckabee's fresh ideas. I'm so tired of same old, same old!
ReplyDeleteThis is excellent news. Excellent for the Democrats. McCain embraces Bush Iraq policy - it is a noose around his neck. All the most recent polls say Americans, by a margin of 2 to 1, want the US out of Iraq and/or say it wasn't worth it.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.pollingreport.com/iraq.htm
Now that US deaths in Iraq are back on the way up, Afghanistan is getting worse, a report comes out today stating:
"The U.S. military isn't ready for a catastrophic attack on the country, and National Guard forces don't have the equipment or training they need for the job."
Even more proof that Bush has weakened America, and now the economy and the value of the American dollar is going down the tubes.
You were right in your earlier prediction, Republicans will lose big - lose both the White House and more seats in congress.
I can just feel it. The primaries have shown an explosion in the youth vote. You expect them to vote for a cantankerous old white guy ... a continuation of the status quo - the 'white christian party' that got us into this mess when everyone is clamoring for change? You can see it in the audience enthusiasm shown in the Democratic debates - like a rock concert - compared to the snooze-fest GOP debates. ZZZzzz
The writing is on the wall... in bold.
well, my dear, I couldn't agree less with you on all the above....
ReplyDeleteEllen, I wouldn't be so confident. A McCain/Huckabee ticket will make the 30%ers like Web incredibly happy - the Wars will continue for the next 100 years (if McCain has his way) and the US Constitution will be re-written to copy the Bible (if Huckabee has his way).
ReplyDeleteThere are still enough people who will fall sway to the "Vote for Hillary Clinton and she will personally come to your house, set your bible on fire, make your daughter have an abortion, tell your husband he has to marry your male neighbor, take every single one of your guns away and give them to illegal immigrants, and force you to convert to Islam and wear a burqa." What they'll say about Obama is worse - and the Dittoheads will believe every word of it.
Web, take a step out of the bubble and read what experts are saying about Afghanistan. I've always been hopeful that we could make life better for the people there. We owe it to them to at least attempt that. Unfortunately, we are falling short.
And, as usual, I feel it's important to point out that merely saying that does not mean I hate the troops, or the policy, but is a reflection of what is happening there on the ground.
I can only say while I may have to vote for a McCain/Huckabee ticket, it is certainly not my first choice. As to your reasoning above about McCain wanting war for the next 100 years, and rewriting the Constitution to the Bible, it's so patently absurd, it doesn't even deserve a response.
ReplyDeleteUh huh.
ReplyDeleteThe United States military could stay in Iraq for "maybe a hundred years" and that "would be fine with me," John McCain told two hundred or so people at a town hall meeting in Derry, New Hampshire, on Thursday evening (January 2).
"I have opponents in this race who do not want to change the Constitution," Huckabee told a Michigan audience on Monday (January 15). "But I believe it's a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living god. And that's what we need to do -- to amend the Constitution so it's in God's standards rather than try to change God's standards so it lines up with some contemporary view."
Absurd? Don't think so.
Try life outside the bubble, Web. Seriously.
It's interesting to note that Democratic debates on CNN and ABC drew a record breaking 8.3 and 9.3 million viewers respectively, compared with the highest rated CNN Republican debate that drew 4.4 million, and the Fox News Republican debate in SC that drew 3.6 million viewers. It appears Ellen is right regarding the enthusiasm factor.
ReplyDeleteThat works for me!!!
ReplyDeleteWow. I don't know whether to laugh, cry or be very, very afraid.
ReplyDeleteI've always believed that there is a sizeable percentage of Christian theocrats who think the only thing wrong with the Taliban is their reliance on the Koran instead of the Bible. Thanks, Jungle Mom, for proving me right.
